Social Media is the tool – experience is the outcome.

1. The Tool

Social media is designed to be disseminated through social interaction, created using highly accessible and scalable publishing techniques. Social media uses Internet and web-based technologies to transform broadcast media monologues (one to many) into social media dialogues (many to many). It supports the democratization of knowledge and information, transforming people from content consumers into content producers.

Social media can take many different forms, including Internet forums, weblogs, social blogs, microblogging, wikis, podcasts, pictures, video, rating and social bookmarking. Technologies include: blogs, picture-sharing, vlogs, wall-postings, email, instant messaging, music-sharing, crowdsourcing, and voice over IP, to name a few.

  • If I have to choose among social media tools then I would go for Facebook and Digg as we get lot of traffic from there, Digg actually helps to get lot of traffic and ROI is maximum on Facebook.
  • I also use Digg a lot. Both to submit my own articles and discover other great articles.

Digg and StumbleUpon is among some of the Social News channels I use. There are some new ones that keeps popping up. Just got an invite to check out a Digg-clone for site for bloggers, internet marketers, and web designers/developers. Have not had time to check it out yet, but as soon as I have then I will consider including it in one upcoming article.

Do you have a fanpage on Facebook Loadable? I will check your profile to see.

  • Oh my, there are so many social media tools I used. If I must choose, the top pick is no other than Facebook. Like Twitter, it has amazed me with massive potentials, rising to be among the top 5 main traffic providers in first quarter of 2010. All networking sites are contributing differently based on the media and user groups, sometimes it takes a lot of test drives to be sure of its potential. I agree, social media experience will continue to play a big role for a convincing result, we all learning from one another's experiences, don't we? :) Well written, Are.

  • Thanks Ching Ya..

I also find Facebook as a really valuable tool to help grow my business. As you say test driving is crucial to find the proper approach for yourself. This is why I focus on the principles here on my blog, and then for upcoming projects I will go more in detail. My focus has been a lot like yours and other blog friends that I see do really well out there. Last year I primarily focused on positioning myself, and learn from others. Now I am a transition phase working on putting the different parts of the puzzle together. And then soon into the action phase... I am not losing my focus or stressing myself, just follow the strategy I have lined out for myself.

As you say we all are learning from one another's experience.. :)

    Cheers.. Are
